Produce marking involves PLUs (Price Look-Up) which are now commonly encoded in the Databar symbology. From the PLU, users can identify if a fruit was genetically modified, organically grown, or produced with chemicals. This barcode marking is only used on the ITEM level and has nothing to do with the case.
PLU codes are commonly used in retail grocery shops and are scanned at the point-of-sale checkout scanner. PLUs are generally printed on small labels and the 4-digit codes is encoded within a GS1 Databar Stacked Omnidirectional barcode symbol.
